Make Sure to Vote in The Homies 2009

The-homies-apartment-therapy

Last year, Apartment Therapy started The Homies to find and reward great shelter blogs. With shelter magazines going out of business left and right, I guess it’s a good idea to reward the best shelter blogs around.  So, this year, they have five categories for the The Homies: home design, home tech, kids at home, home cooking, and green home. We’re proud to have been nominated for the green home category – thanks for putting us on the list!

Are You On Our Green Twitter Lists Yet?

Twitter Logo

Are you on Twitter yet?  If you're not, I hope you'll get there soon, because the conversation is good.  And the sharing is getting better, too.  You may have noticed we have a "retweet" button at the end of each article.  It's been fun to see how far and wide topics can spread with these buttons.

Along these lines, if you're on Twitter, you may have noticed the roll out of lists.  It seems like a great idea and we're going to try to get more out of it.  We've built up the following lists and want to add friends of Jetson Green to the right category.  Drop a comment with your Twitter handle and the appropriate list group, and we'll add you to it.

Three More Reasons to Hit WCG 2009

West-coast-green-2009

You already know that we're media sponsors for West Coast Green 2009.  If the self-sustaining show home isn't enough to get you out, maybe the living walls or Innovation Pipeline will.  Or maybe some of the keynote speakers, such as Ray Anderson, Gavin Newsom, Andrew Winston, or Cameron Sinclair, will get you out.  Who knows?!  The marketing campaign is in full swing, and we have three more reasons you should register now:

Get Ready for West Coast Green 2009

Picture 1

For the third year in a row, we'd like to announce that Jetson Green has teamed up with West Coast Green as a media partner.  One of the reasons we're doing this is because it gives us the opportunity to pass on a 20% discount on full conference registration.  Another reason is because the speakers and exhibitors are really good and friendly.  I loved the Harbinger House last year, too, so let's see what's in store for 2009.

Wow, Our Third B-Day Came Quick!

7232009

After the big bash we threw last year, you may not believe this, but I just remembered that today is the third blog birthday for Jetson Green!  I can't believe I forgot all about it.  But hey, here's the thing:  I really appreciate that you keep coming back to this little site.  I really do.  With all the great curators of fine green content out there, whether Inhabitat, Moco Loco, Materialicious, Contemporist, Metro Hippie, Dwell, Re-Nest, Treehugger, Low Impact Living, or otherwise, I'm glad you've spent some time here, too.

PTI: Testing Out Something New

BSAJG

If you know us, you know we're never satisfied with the status quo, so we’re testing out a new ad server program that’s kind of fun.  If you look to the right sidebar, you’ll notice a 50x50 pixel gray square – it’s not standard ad size or anything, but that’s why we like it.  We think people will look at it and, curious about what the box is, they’ll click it and find you.  But this is entirely speculative and exploratory, so we can’t be sure.

Happy New Year, Quick Reflections

Times Square LED Ball

Hey, Happy New Year!  It's hard to believe an entire year just flew by, but it did.  On this day last year, we identified Five Green Trends to Watch in 2008 -- actually, the trends were specifically related to green building rather than the environment in general -- and you'll probably agree that we were right on.  I guess that means we'll take another stab at predicting the future in these unpredictable, turbulent times.  Keep an eye out for our next green trends article for 2009 ... update, here it is:

Facebook Connect Enabled Comments

Facebook

If you read tech blogs, you may have noticed that Facebook Connect is spreading like crazy.  We're happy to announce that the commenting system that we use, Disqus, is now supporting Facebook Connect.  Unfortunately (and as is always the case), this new feature is kind of in beta: there are two glitches.  First, if you already have a Disqus profile and you've linked up Facebook in your Disqus profile, your Facebook Connect comments will be under a different profile.  Second, posting comments on Jetson Green may, in the future, allow you to publish the same in your Facebook profile news feed, but not for the time being.  The Disqus team is working on these features.  If you want to start commenting with Facebook Connect, here's how:

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

Christmas5

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the crew here at Jetson Green.  Stay safe, chill out, and enjoy family and friends.  We'll be around, but a little slowish due to intermittent access to internet.

Looking for Smart Contributors

Jetson Green - Blogging the Green Building Revolution

Update - 12/18/08 - the response has been huge!  I'm sorting through everything and will be in touch shortly.  All contributor positions, for the foreseeable short term, appear to be filled.  Thank you!

In a little over a year's time, this site has grown like indigenous landscaping rooted in fresh, fertile soil.  We're seeing three times more readers and feed subscribers.  Emails have gone through the roof!  To be honest, the team right now just can't write about all the great content worth writing about.  So we're looking for contributors.  We're not looking for junk stories and we're certainly not interested in adding to the blogosphere echo chamber -- this is a magazine and we like to spend time gathering images and information to appropriately tell a unique story.  Doing so takes some time and collaboration, but the rewards are many and diverse.  These are some of the areas we could use contributors:
