Dune Wall Tiles by urbanproduct

Stephen Lindsay has been working on the launch of these fascinating tiles made of walnut, plaster, and concrete. Dune tiles are eight inches square and protrude about two inches from the wall surface. They’re distributed through urbanproduct (though the company is looking for U.S. distributors) and made with natural pigments and a soya-based finish.

Lush Edible Living Wall in Los Angeles

Tournesol Siteworks makes a modular living wall system that was installed at Pizzeria Mozza on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.  GreenScaped Buildings installed the green wall with 100% recycled polypropylene plastic modules, a Uni-Strut frame, and Netafim in-line drip irrigation.  The result is a lush and massive wall -- now about 120 square feet on the east facing wall -- that protrudes roughly 15 inches from the surface.  It grows lettuce, peppermint, celery, parsley, sage, and other edible plants.

This newly certified Cradle to Cradle product, Glass2, is an elegant material that can be used as a countertop, vanity, wall cladding, flooring, or almost anything else you can think of.  The product is made with 99% recycled glass and no resin and can be worked on by stone and glass fabricators.  Glass2 is sold through dealerships dotting the nation, available in thickness anywhere from 16 to 35 mm, and made in 12 colors ranging from Glacier White to Azurite.

Recycled Hardwood by Staybull Flooring

Staybull Flooring, a Florida company, recently let us know about their recycled flooring available in more than 20 wood species.  The company salvages waste wood from lumber mills around the globe; binds discarded strips together with a solvent-free, no-VOC adhesive; and then mills and finishes the planks with a ceramic, no-VOC finish.  The result is strong, mosaic-like, rich in detail, and made in the U.S.A.  And if you're looking for an FSC certified option, Staybull Flooring can provide that, too.

Fontenay Woods from Old Wine Barrels

If you're in the market for an Old World look, Fontenay makes vintage flooring from reclaimed wine barrels.  The Cooperage collection has stamps and markings from the barrel head; the Wine Infusion collection comes from the inside of the barrel and is naturally stained by the wine; and the Stave collection is made with the outside of the barrel and shows markings from the hoops.  Pricing starts at $32 per square foot.

Lumboo Engineered Bamboo Lumber

While we're talking about bamboo, another product worth keeping an eye on is this bamboo dimensional lumber from Cali Bamboo.  The San Diego-based company says the product, Lumboo, is the "world's first engineered bamboo dimensional lumber," made with 100% compressed bamboo and a low-VOC resin. It can be used for fences and a variety of other applications.

Wavy Solar Integrated Studio House

Lamboo, Inc., a maker of architectural bamboo products out of Illinois, has this concept studio featured on their website.  Lamboo Studio is made with several different Lamboo products, including bamboo interior paneling, custom bamboo furniture, bamboo content in windows and doors, and laminated structural bamboo in the roof and floor.  Illustrating several uses for these bamboo products, the 304 square-foot tiny home has a wavy aluminum roof with integrated Uni-Solar panels and a composting toilet for off-grid living.

Natural FSC Certified Flooring from Mafi

If you're in the market for an engineered, wide-plank, natural flooring, Mafi is a great place to start.  The company uses FSC-certified woods that are treated with organic, natural oils (and no lacquer).  As a result, Mafi is "breathable," "warm," durable, and will not cup, gap, warp, or fail.  The Colorado-based company has operations on both the east and west coast and can create a floor to suit your project perfectly.

Fyto Wall Lively Vertical Garden Walls

The show home for Dwell on Design, Eco Fab House, which just sold for $66,100 on eBay, was garnished with a vertical living wall from Fyto Wall and Design Ecology. The system was set up with modular panels, a soil-less hydroponic watering system, and pre-grown plantings.  Fyto Wall is estimated to require upkeep only once per month and can be used to reduce noise, reduce cooling loads, filter air, produce food, or, of course, add life to a design.

Broken Windshields Now Second Glass

I'm fascinated by Second Glass, a product that was recognized on Sustainable Industries' Top 10 Green Building Products list this year.  Second Glass is a recycled glass product made in Portland of junk or damaged windshields using a patent-pending cold-melted process.
