Welcome Park City TV Viewers!

Mountain Morning Show

I want to take this quick opportunity to welcome any viewers dropping by from the Mountain Morning Show on Park City TV.  I was on the show for a quick little bit talking about green building and what's going on right now.  For a guy that's trying to work off four hectic years of grad school weight, the camera angle isn't that great, but we're making progress on that front.  I want to thank the wonderful hosts and crew for having Jetson Green on their award-winning morning show!

The Real World Hollywood's Green Digs [PICS]

Kitchen2

In a break from the blue suit and red tie mentality here at JG, I thought I would share this news about The Real World Hollywood's green digs.  Think MTV teamed up with Bunim-Murray Productions to green the next, certain-to- be-dramatic installment of the show.  It'll be the first time they've gone with green finish outs for the show.  The greenly decorated house includes environmentally friendly products ranging from solar panels and hybrid cars, to bamboo flooring, energy efficient appliances, and a number of recycled and reused products around the house.  No word on product specifics, but here you go -- feel free to play name that green product in the comments if you notice something in the pictures.

I'll also add that I think this news definitely stands for two things: (1) green is here, and (2) green is mainstream.  Any perspective?

PBS e² Series Returns with Pitt, Morgan Freeman

e2 design

"How did progress take priority over human mankind? ..."  I'm the proud owner of season one of e² design, a six-part series that aired on PBS last fall.  I can't wait for the next season and it's coming soon.  Go check out www.e2-series.com.  Brad Pitt's back with “e² design."  This grouping of shows will feature Thom Mayne, architect of the San Francisco Federal Building; Enrique Peñalosa, the former mayor of Bogotá, Colombia; and Adriaan Geuze, lead architect of the Borneo Sporenburg development in Amsterdam.  PBS also brought on rookie, Morgan Freemen, for “e² energy."  This segment will feature Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize winner and founder of the Grameen Bank; Amory Lovins, founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute; and Dr. José Goldemberg, Brazil’s former secretary for the environment.  This is excellent video content.  Incredible content.  Unbeatable content.

DiCaprio, Discovery to Rebuild Devastated Greensburg into Eco-Town

Discovery Planet Green

On May 4, Greensburg, Kansas, population 1,500, was smashed by a tornado.  Celebrity Leonardo DiCaprio saw the destruction and decided to help Greensburg rebuild their into an "Eco-town."  DiCaprio pitched the idea to Discovery and the company decided to join with him to make the rebuilding into a 13-part series for Discovery's new Planet Green channel.  The series will be called "Eco-town," and it will document Greensburg becoming a "sustainable model of eco-living and one that will save it from future environmental catastrophe."

DiCaprio plans to executive produce the series through his company Appian Way, with the additional help of Craig Piligiann and Discovery Planet Green.  They anticipate working closely with the governor of Kansas and Greensburg to put resources into the rebuilding and make a genuine difference.  I think it's an excellent idea and can't wait to watch and learn from the effort.  Via NY Times.

To get an idea of the damage to this town, check the photos below the fold.  It's unbelievable the damage nature can do.

Sundance Channel's Big Ideas Episode #2: Build

Big Ideas Build

If you're like me, you don't have The Sundance Channel and you buy each episode of Big Ideas on iTunes for $1.99.  I downloaded the last episode called "BUILD" and liked it so much, I'm going to buy a copy of the video on iTunes for the first 5 people to comment in this post.  It's really good.  In an information-packed 25 minutes and 38 seconds, the producers take us through Michelle Kaufmann's prefab factory, the process of building a Glidehouse, Carlton Brown's green multifamily housing in New York, the advantages of green building, the future of green building with technology, and Mitchell Joachim's fab tree hab.

Note - I'll use the email that you comment with to gift the episode to you through iTunes.  This is not a Sundance promo, this is JG promoting modern, green building.
