Zevon Platinum Passive House in Utah

Dave Brach, architect of the first Passive House in Utah, and Benchmark Modern, builder of this modern LEED home, are working on a new project in the Salt Lake City area called Zevon.  The home, which is under construction right now, is being built – for the most part – to Passive House standards and will seek LEED Platinum certification when completed.

Luxury LEED Vineyard Resort in Oregon

Planted in the middle of a new vineyard in Newberg, a small town in Willamette Valley, The Allison Inn and Spa is doing some amazing things in terms of reducing the ecological footprint associated with typically high-impact hospitality operations.  According to projections, the resort and vineyard was designed by GGLO to save 48% on utility costs, as well as reduce potable water irrigation use by 78% and fixture water use by 37%, compared to a comparable non-green project.

Net Zero Sungazing House in Park City

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to tour this newly-built net-zero energy home in Park City, Utah.  The Sungazing House, built by Tall Pines Construction and designed by Jean Yves Lacroix, is home to the O'Meara family of four and features impressive views of the surrounding area.  Perhaps more impressive, however, is the fact that it's pursuing Passive House, LEED Platinum, and NAHB Emerald certifications.

California LivingHome Earns Platinum

Yesterday, LivingHomes announced that this modern prefab in Newport Beach received LEED Platinum certification.  Designed by KieranTimberlake, the KTLH1.5 model home was a showcase for TED 2009 and features stylish, contemporary interiors from Kristin Kilmer Design.  Steve Glenn, CEO of LivingHomes, said the home "uses far less energy, water, and materials resources than most homes and ... has far better indoor air quality."

Green Moderne Townhomes in Houston

Home builder, Green Mode Designs, LLC, recently finished this townhouse project on an infill lot near Memorial Park in Houston, Texas. Two of the homes are on the market for $450,000 - $470,000, while the third received LEED Gold certification and is already sold. This solar-powered home, based on the HERS Rating, is 56% more efficient than a standard home and uses 33% less water.

The Belmont Earns LEED Silver in Dallas

This project, The Belmont Apartments, is the first apartment community in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to receive LEED Silver, according to UDR, Inc., a multifamily REIT that developed the project.  Located at 2500 Bennett Avenue, Belmont has 464 units in five buildings.  Since its opening, interest from the community has been higher than expected -- likely driven by the combination of green aspects and modern design.

LEED Platinum Remodel in Wilmington

With 113.5 points, this North Carolina home is one of the greenest remodels ever certified by the LEED for Homes program, according to EcoHome Magazine.  Architect Jay DeChesere led the Wilmington project which diverted 91% of construction waste and secured a HERS rating of 28 post-renovation.  You'll have to admit these are some stellar numbers!

Modern Ellis Residence Earns Platinum

Seattle has its fair share of LEED Platinum homes, but this is officially the first LEED Platinum single family home in the state of Washington outside of Seattle.  Located on Bainbridge Island, it was designed by Coates Design Architects for owners Ed and JoAnne Ellis.  The Ellis Residence is a fascinating blend of style and sustainability and demonstrates a number of green strategies.

First Platinum Multifamily in LA County

This is Casa Dominguez, a new multifamily development in Los Angeles County.  It’s actually the first LEED Platinum multifamily project in the county, according to non-profit developer and architecture firm Abode Communities.  Located in East Rancho Dominguez, the project features a blend of one- to four-bedroom green apartments suited for low-income families.

Modern Motel 6 Takes LEED Certification

This is the first economy hotel in the nation to obtain LEED certification, according to a recent press release by Accor North America.  Located in Northlake near Texas Motor Speedway, the Motel 6 combines European style rooms, modern detailing, and eco-friendly elements while still remaining economic and approachable.  The green hotel opened in October 2009 and features some of the following green elements:
